Black Men in the Media: Craig A. Thompson
Craig Thompson is a native of Baltimore and a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, and a second Bachelor of Arts Degree in Afro-American Studies. He is also a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor Degree.
Craig has become a sought after public speaker, addressing topics such as leadership, goal setting and self-esteem. He has spoken across the country at churches, schools, colleges and to civic organizations. Craig is a recipient of numerous awards and citations. He has received recognition from state and local politicians, as well as the Governor of the State of Maryland.
He is listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and Who's Who Among Law Students. He was recently nominated for inclusion in the International Who's Who of Professionals. He has received WNUV's (Channel 54) "Proud and Positive Award," and graduated from the prestigious Leadership Program sponsored by the Greater Baltimore Committee.
In honor of Craig's accomplishments, former Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke designated May 23, 1992 as "Craig Anthony Thompson Day" in the city of Baltimore. Craig was recently featured in the Baltimore Business Journal as one of 40 emerging leaders under the age of 40 in the state of Maryland.
Craig is currently an attorney with the Law Offices of Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos, and was recently named "Practitioner of the Year" by the Black Law Students Association at the University of Maryland. He is also president of Grand Vision Communications, an educational consulting firm.
He is published in two books, an anthology regarding the million man march entitled Atonement: The Million Man March, and a book about rapper Tupac Shakur entitled Tough Love: The Life and Death of Tupac Shakur. He serves on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations, including the University of Maryland School of Law Alumni Association, The Great Blacks in Wax Museum, and the Baltimore Mentoring Partnership.
He hosts a weekly two-way talk radio show, "The Back Page", every Friday at 8:00 p.m. on WEAA (88.9FM), and was recognized by the Association of Black Media Workers as the "Best Public Affairs Host" (radio) in the region. Craig also hosts a weekly television talk show, "Profiles with Craig Thompson", which airs Sundays at 8:30 a.m. on UPN channel 24.
