Black Men in the Media: Richard Rowe
Richard A Rowe, M.P.A., has been employed in senior management positions in both the public and non-profit sectors for the past twenty years. He has managed several direct service programs involving male youth, and has provided training to hundreds of mentors/volunteers and community organizations. He has received national recognition for his work with African American men, male youth and single female parents.
Mr. Rowe is also the co-host of a weekly radio program on Morgan State University radio, which provides a forum for open and candid dialogue about the plight and accomplishments of African American men.
Richard Rowe was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He is a twin and the sixth child of Robert and Irene Rowe. Mr. Rowe is a graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit where he graduated as one of Michigan's top student athletes.
He left Detroit in the early seventies to attend Morgan State University where he graduated with a degree in Political Science and Philosophy. Richard later attended the University of Baltimore where he graduated with honors and received a Master's degree in Public Administration. He also completed an Executive Development Training program at the University of Maryland's school of Business and Community Planning.
Richard Rowe is currently employed as Director of Programs and Administration for the Baltimore Mentoring Partnership. In addition, he is the co-host of "Conversation with the African American Male", Morgan State University's popular two-way talk radio program. He has also worked for the Baltimore City Health Department and the Baltimore Urban League where he received national recognition for his work with young Black males.
Richard has worked for the Howard County Government's Planning Department and the Joint Center for Political Studies in Washington, DC. He also serves as president of the African American Men's Leadership Council - an organization committed to the optimal development of African American male children and Black family life.
He has lectured locally and nationally on male responsibility, fatherhood, manhood, male-female relationships, self-esteem enhancement activities for male children, violence, and other topics related to male-female development.
Richard Rowe has received numerous awards and commendations for his community service and is the proud recipient of several achievement and leadership awards. He also serves on numerous boards and committees. Richard Rowe and his wife Denise Wheatley Rowe, R.N., M.S.W. operate The Leadership Circle is a unique and dynamic consulting company. TLC combines educational forums, skills development training sessions and print / visual mediums to teach and promote proactive leadership strategies. TLC is available to provide training, advice and technical assistance to schools, parent groups and community based organizations.
