Gerald K. Malcom is an exciting new author, and a provocative poet. The Philadelphia native is a single father in his early 30s, living in Albany, NY, where he is also hard at work on the follow-up to "After The Games Are Played."
If you've ever dreamed of a guided tour through a Black man's psyche, be careful what you wish for! In his debut novel, Gerald K. Malcom (that's Malcom with 1 L!) masterfully weaves the hilarious and all-too-human tale of Jordan Styles - the hunky, faithful, newly divorced dad, whose healthy ego belies his honest anxieties about being single for the first time in ten years, and back in "The Game."
"After The Games Are Played" is a multi-layered joy ride through explorations of relationships, all with the introspective and witty Jordan at the helm. As he struggles to regain his footing as a single guy in Washington, DC, where women far outnumber men, Jordan manages to attract women as easily as he always had, without much effort or interest; that is, until he finally meets his match. The story unfolds with the thrill of a basketball buzzer-beater and as in most games, there are other players, namely L-O-V-E, and no one wants to lose.
Gerald K. Malcom's confident male perspective is a fresh and original contribution to the rich current literary landscape, and shines through best in his vivid and insightful humor. But it was an emotional end to a relationship and inspiration from Langston Hughes that sowed the seeds that became "After The Games Are Played."
Malcom's reach extends far beyond his literary prowess. On his path to the literary arena were stops in the field of education. Believing in the impact of resilient African American male role models, Gerald K. Malcom became a counselor at a group home for troubled young men.
Among his proudest accomplishments in education and in publishing is a project he founded called Books By Us.
Compelled by the void in the academic curricula in his community, Malcom established and volunteers in the trailblazing new program that teaches inner city high school students creative writing and the process of self-publishing. From brainstorming to printing, the program focuses on building entrepreneurial spirit and creating a positive environment for minority students. Through Books By Us the students successfully wrote and self-published their own remarkable collection of short stories and poems entitled "Outer Thinking from the Inner City," which was released in July 2002.
Gerald K. Malcom is also widely recognized as the published author of a sold out book of poetry entitled "The Naked Soul of A Man."
