On Saturday, June 15, 2002 A Good Black Man, Inc. (AGBM, Inc.) joined with Afroindo Art Gallery to honor five outstanding Black men for their example to Black male youth and the ongoing contributions they make to the community at large.
The first annual "Legacy of Excellence Awards Celebration" and networking event was presented to a near capacity crowd at the Randallstown, Maryland art gallery. Held symbolically on Fathers' Day weekend, this event was a celebration of the many men of color who continually serve as supportive fathers, loving husbands, inspirational teachers, dedicated mentors, compassionate counselors, thoughtful advisors, strong leaders, devoted activists, staunch supporters, and positive contributors within the Black community.
The nominees were selected on the basis of their community involvement, their commitment to family and community and their of one of the five gateways of excellence found on the organization's website, www.agoodblackman.com.
The Legacy of Excellence Award Recipients For 2002
Sgt. DeLacy Davis (Founder-Black Cops Against Police Brutality) nominated for the "Our Heroes" gateway;

AGBM, Inc., is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop an expansive collaboration of resources and information specific to uplifting, educating, honoring and empowering Black males with a specific focus on youth.
The organization was formulated as a result of the overwhelming success of the website www.agoodblackman.com (AGBM.com). The website serves to provide a global forum to dispel the myth that "there are no good Black men" by creating a safe haven void of unkind criticism, persecution and degradation typically found in the media and society-at-large.
"The AGBM family is very exited about the support we've received for this event" said D. Browne, Founder and President of both AGBM, Inc, and the website (AGBM.com). "It's not only an opportunity to raise much needed funds to meet our Legacy of Excellence Program needs, but it's also a celebration of the positive African American males in our communities"
