2004 LOE Award Recipient Avon J. Bellamy
Avon J. Bellamy is the CEO of Words/Logos Communications, Inc., a multimedia and human development company engaged in supplying innovative solutions to business and community organizations. As a former director for a community economic development effort under Baltimore City's Empowerment Zone program, he was responsible for developing entrepreneurial opportunities for community members that included the transportation, construction and technology industries. In that capacity, he negotiated business relationships between small, developing, community businesses and interested private businesses and public organizations.
With a background in community economic development, journalism, psychology, education, and public relations, Mr. Bellamy has provided consultant services and seminars to a variety of agencies and institutions both nationally and internationally, among them the Southland corporation, the National Association of Homebuilders, The Job Corps, and the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. He has developed, co-developed and managed some of the most innovative programs in the USA. Many of them, like the Baltimore PREP Alternative Education Model and the Pre-Trial Intervention Program for delinquent juveniles, went on to become national models for youth programming.
A compelling and charismatic innovator and motivator, Mr. Bellamy, who holds a Master of Arts degree from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, has acquired a large arsenal of skills from his experiences, which he now puts to good use advancing entrepreneurial and business opportunities within the Information Technology arena. He is a proven leader within the Baltimore community and has developed a sound reputation for excellence within the local political, financial and business communities.
In addition to the above, he holds certifications in Male Development Family Systems through ADISA Positive Systems; Group Process Management through Antioch College's Center for Strategic Social Action; Youth Effectiveness Training (Y.E.T.), and as a Psychiatric Aide from the University of Maryland's Psychiatric Institute.
