2004 LOE Award Recipient Charles Dugger
Brother Charles Dugger, one of Baltimore City's most revered and outstanding community activist, cultural nationalist and educator attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Baltimore City College. He attended the prestigious Howard University in Washington D.C., and graduated in 1968. He later attended Morgan State University where he graduated in 1979 with a Master's degree.
Brother Dugger has worked for both the City's Department of Parks and Recreation and the Housing Department. However, he is widely known as one of Baltimore's most respected and committed educators and has spent over 32 years teaching students in the classrooms of the Baltimore City Public Schools where he is affectionately referred to by students as the "Professor of Black History." He demands nothing less than excellence from his students.
As if teaching and preparing thousands of students for life, Mr. Dugger spends a lot of his "free" time planning and organizing and educational and cultural events to pay deference to some of Black history's most celebrated heroes and "sheroes" including Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and John Coltrane. He has spent over 33 years working directly with youth and founded the Camp Harambee Program, which provides youth with academic enrichment workshops and cultural activities. Moreover, Brother Dugger has produced and hosted several radio programs that aired on WEBB, AM and Morgan State University's public radio, WEAA-FM. He also traveled to Port-au-Prince, Haiti where he served as an instructor.
Mr. Charles Dugger has also volunteered much of his time, over the past thirty years, teaching and giving hope to thousands of brothers who are incarcerated in Maryland prisons. Bother Dugger is a passionate advocate for human dignity, justice and economic empowerment for the poor and for those who are disenfranchised. He is an "out of the box" visionary and a true and selfless public servant.
Mr. Dugger is a popular guest on talk radio where he speaks truth to power and encourages every adult to reach back, teach, inspire and lift up our youth. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, the recipient of numerous community awards and public service citations, and he is the proud husband of Genifer Dugger.
