It's a celebration! It's about honoring those who are our heroes … those who have passed the baton … those who are keepers of the flame . . those who are our better halves and those who are our future! A Good Black Man, Inc. ("AGBM, Inc.") which is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland has announced that Messrs. Mario Armstrong, Andrew Hall, Arnold Mitchell, Ernest Kromah and Dr. Edward E. Cornwell, III received the 2006 Legacy of Exellence Award and Mr. Devron Dickens, Sr. received the Dr. John T. Chissell Optimal Achiever Award on Sunday July 23, 2006 beginning with a sponsors reception at 2:00 P.M. in the Millbrook Park Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

"Calendar Year 2006 marked the fifth year for our Legacy of Excellence Awards Celebration," explained D. Anne Browne, President of AGBM, Inc. "Our organization is dedicated to promoting the positive contributions that African American men make to their families and communities. The Legacy of Exellence Awards was bestowed upon five outstanding gentlemen. Mr. Ernest Kromah received the 'Our Better Halves Gateway' award. The 'Keepers of the Flame Gateway' award was bestowed upon Arnold Mitchell. 'Our Heroes Gateway' award was presented to Dr. Edward E. Cornwell, III. The 'Passing The Baton Gateway' and 'Our Future Gateway' awards were received respectively by Messrs. Mario Armstrong and Andrew Hall. We are seeking sponsors for this event and we are accepting ads for publication in our souvenir journal."

This award is not only intended to commemorate and preserve the extraordinary life and legacy of one of this nation’s most venerable health advocates and a true Black hero , but to also recognize an African American male student who has demonstrated a proficiency in math, the science (s) and/or medicine. The award was created to celebrate the best possible emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual and socio-economic aliveness, which was promoted and practiced by the quintessential physician, community activist and father of “Optimal Health,” Dr. John T. Chissell.

The emcee for the evening is television Anchorman and actor, Stan Stovall. The Legacy of Excellence Awards Celebration is an annual event. Each year, advanced tickets are available for family and friends who would like to share in the celebration for a discounted contribution of $30. Tickets purchased at the door are $40. Children 12 years and younger will be admitted free of charge. All contributions are tax deductible.
