Thinking about working with a young person? Consider the types of activities that might interest you such as:
Helping a young person
develop a specific skill, pursue an interest or learn about a subject.
Our young people also need mentors who are interested in getting to
know them or who are interested in being a friend.
The age and number
of youths you want to work with is also an important consideration.
Elementary, middle, or high school aged children all need our support.
You can also choose to mentor a child on a one-to-one basis versus
coaching a group of young people.
Our children need
us to invest time in them. Consider how much time you have to devote
to mentoring. Can you be available once a week? Twice a month? It's
important to be realistic about the responsibilities involved with
mentoring a young person.
If you're not sure about committing for at least six months, consider
trying a shorter term volunteer opportunity.
