William White: A man of "rock-solid" faith
A devout Christian, William White of the Atlanta Falcons has touched many on the team with his strong beliefs and, more importantly, his Christian ideals and actions. He has taken an active leadership role in team Bible study classes and chapel services and can always be seen in the locker room talking to other players about what it means to live right and the positive effect it has on one's life. "My personal formula for success," he says, " involves having a rock-solid faith."
He is also very involved in community work, both locally and in various cities around the country. White strongly believes that a way to help the needy is to provide them with ownership opportunities. He has held true to this philosophy by becoming a partner in Ohio-based Community Center Bank, which provides funding to low-income homeowners.
He is a member of Community Rebuild Inc., which is a program established by NFL players and Congresswoman Maxine Waters to help rebuild inner-city Los Angeles. He is also a member (along with college teammate and current Minnesota Viking wide receiver Chris Carter) of Pro Challenge, a program that brings speakers to schools to address substance abuse. When asked about the work he does in the community, White says, "I'm just doing my part."
White believes that in every NFL player's career there comes a moment when his career either prospers or flounders. White's moment, according to him, came in his second season with the Lions and he is grateful for the advice and leadership he received from several veterans. He knows that physical talents are not enough to be successful in this league, and that it takes mental toughness as well as physical prowess. "Rules. Technique. Study. That's the formula to a successful career," says White.
