Hakim Peay: Helping Us to Vent Our Concerns Without the Shackles of Conformity
Originally intended as a site based on a group of friends located out of Seattle, Washington, Nphamous.com took off in the fall of 2000. Moving from a personal domain and broadening its content into coverage of music and entertainment topics, it soon opened a global forum and again redefined itself. With each new member across the world Npha started to include a more creative base for design, poetry, emceeing, political views and urban lifestyles.
Continuing on in its tradition to not hold back and show no boundaries. Nphamous welcomes new members, content and ideas to be heard. Censorship is the only questioned ideal with the motto that "Once there is nothing left to rebel against, rebellion becomes obsolete."
Since day one, almost three years ago, Nphamous has vowed to document the going ons of the world in our own unique fashion and we haven't strayed from our goal yet. We remain open minded, free thinkers who bring information and news from wars brewing across the world to celebrity incidents, rumors and events in its rawest form.
Nphamous is the place where rebellion becomes obsolete! We believe that once a person or unit has a forum in which to say what they want to say when they want to say it and how, once the candy coating is sucked dry from the nasty poison pill often call reality, mutiny is superseded and the real listening and learning begins.
Nphamous is planetary coverage for the rebel in you. We don't care what your religion is, we don't care what your race is, and we don't even care about what you ate for breakfast. What we do care about is freedom of speech and individuality.
As Nphamous grows and we stretch our super information highway wings we will bring you even more coverage on the things that you want to know about. We will not be afraid to speak out on the things that affect us near and far. We will not pull punches because of status; no one is safe from our verbal warfare.
And We Will Document It Until The End!
A Note From Hakim:
Eric Greniger and I met on SoHH.com more than three years ago in SoHH's forums. We argued race relations and social status and vowed to be virtual mortal enemies for life. People watching our heated debates nicknamed me Lex Luthor and Eric, Superman and the rest is history. We became fast friends and decided that if SoHH could do it, so could we but without the tight reigns of censorship gripping the members of SoHH into submission. Eric decided we needed a place to vent our concerns without the shackles of conformity placed around our keyboards, thus, NPHAMOUS was born.
First Nphamous was merely a message board or forum, we had a handful of members and a couple of volunteers to help moderate the boards, soon Eric started designing our first front page and I filled it with text. The articles and topics were about anything we were feeling at the time and to this day it still is. What amazed me is that I'm Black to the core, Mr. Pro-Black in the flesh; black fisted picks and Ebonics, and Eric is Asian and European and we clicked. I mean really clicked. I went to high school with Black folks, went to college with black folks and grew up with Black folks. And yet I discovered I had more in common with this dude on the other end of the racial spectrum and on the other end of the nation than I did with most of the Black folks I went to college with. I have colorless monitor to thank for bridging that gap.
The coolest thing about Nphamous is that its members and the people who just read the front page can keep their identity intact, as we all should, but yet allow themselves to be open to new kinds of ethnicity's and cultures. And although our struggles may vary in the end we're all just fertilizer.
